At the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEMéx), we are convinced that scientific knowledge is not a privilege for the few, but a Human Right that gains its true value when placed at the service of collective well-being.
On April, 22nd, we gathered at the UAEMéx Historic Rectorate Building for the Science Encounter: “Fortaleciendo las Ciencias de la Salud” [“Strengthening Health Sciences” in English]. This event of utmost importance was graced by the presence and support of our Rector, Dr. Martha Patricia Zarza Delgado, whose leadership reaffirms this administration´s commitment to science that directly impacts people’s lives.
The session was a mosaic of knowledge due to the attendance of leading figures who set the course for health in our state. It was an honor to count with the presence and vision of Dr. Celina Castañeda de la Lanza, whose experience in health quality management at the State level provides an invaluable perspective on the relevance of university research in the public system.
Likewise, M. Héctor Manuel Tlatoa Ramirez opened the reflection with his lecture on the strengthening of health sciences, while panels “Avances en la Investigación en el Sector Salud” [“Advances in Research in the Health Sector” in English] and “Fortaleciendo las Áreas de la Salud a través de la Investigación” [“Strengthening Health Areas through Research” in English] allowed for a deep dialogue on innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration.
One of the most inspiring points was the enthusiastic participation of around 134 members of our community, highlighting the presence of students and academic staff from the Faculties of Medicine, Nursing and Obstetrics, and Dentistry. Seeing this generational relay actively involved confirms that UAEMéx is ready to lead a more transparent and collaborative science.
It is fundamental to articulate the needs of the health sector with our postgraduate training, specifically through the Doctorate Program in Sciences, Biomedical Technology, and Control. Under this model, we seek to have researchers-in-training engage in dialogue with clinical practice to generate pertinent solutions in hospitals and communities.
This transformation is only real if we respect multilingualism, by communicating science in native languages -Such as Otomí in Temoaya– we guarantee that knowledge is a living tool for families and health promoters. By opening science culturally and linguistically, knowledge circulates back and forth between academia and society.
This encounter reflects the spirit of an “Accessible University”: An institution that, hand in hand with state and academic authorities, listens and puts its heart into every action to transform realities. We will continue working for an ethical, inclusive, and deeply human research model.
